DO NOT HIRE A RECRUITING SERVICE! WHY? KEEP READING!

Parents, Student-athletes and Coaches, You Need to Hear the College Recruiting Truth!

In 1998, sitting at Hall of Fame quarterback Brett Favre’s steakhouse (now closed) in Milwaukee, with 49’ers quarterback legend John Brodie, Oprah Winfrey’s beau, Stedman Graham, and a gentleman named Jack Renkens, among others, I was nearly awe-struck to begin my journey in helping families and their children blaze a path to pursuing their dreams of playing college sports. While it was an impressive group of people, it was Jack who stood out the most. We became great friends. He became my mentor. He taught me these recruiting tenets, which still survive today, though my friend, sadly, does not:

YOU MUST BE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR OWN COLLEGE RECRUITING PLAN!

  • "Do not rely on your high school or club coach to be the only gatekeeper to college!”

  • Do not rely on the discovery theory: getting discovered at camps and showcases!”

  • "Have an uncontrollable passion for wanting to play at the next level!”

  • "Involve yourself with hundreds of potential right-fit schools!”

  • "Research and know all you can about these schools!”

  • "Start communicating with these coaches early in high school; don’t quit until they say, “No”!”

  • "Like anything else, know your budget; camps and clubs can break you!”

  • "Seek the most efficient process and people for guiding your next level dream!”

  • "Leverage and negotiate for your best financial aid package!"

  • "This is about your education! It’s a forty-year decision, not a four-year decision!”

and . . . "YOU ONLY HAVE ONE SHOT AT DOING THIS RIGHT”

Though my friend lives no more, his words are as true today as they have always been and etched in what we do and what we offer in our step-by-step guidebook and our Huddle guidance! As Jack said: “DON’T SPEND THOUSANDS ON RECRUITING SERVICES!”

We pledge to continue helping all our teammates and keeping their dreams alive. To help them to . . . PLAY ON!
